Tip Sheet: PUBLIC SPEAKING

Diminish fear of public speaking by focusing on your audience — not yourself.  Before outlining a presentation, answer these five questions:

1. Who is your audience?

2. What do they know about your topics?

3. How long do you have to speak?

4. Why should your audience listen to you? They want to know: “What’s in it for me?” (Also known as W-I-I-F-M.)

5. What action do you want your audience to take after you finish speaking?
